GeoPostales - a photographic documentary

Geopostales, is digital postcard project that brings engineering and global collaboration together in an extraordinary and inspiring way.

Geopostales emerged as a celebration within the framework of two prestigious events: the XVII Pan-American Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (XVII PCSMGE) and the 2nd Latin American Regional Conference of the International Association of Engineering Geology and the Environment (IAEG). Held in La Serena, Chile, from November 12 to 17, 2024, these gatherings provided the ideal stage for a project that celebrates the shared passion and creativity within the geotechnical and geological communities.

The idea was to invite participants from al the continent to submit the most striking and meaningful photographs that reflect the essence of their experiences in geotechnics and geology. The response was truly remarkable—over 90 submissions representing societies from 9 countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, and the United States. Each submission showcased breathtaking landscapes, innovative projects, and the dedication of professionals in the field.

From this rich collection, 60 outstanding photographs were selected to form the core of the

Geopostales digital gallery. Each image tells its own unique story, capturing moments of inspiration and the wide variety of projects and geology of our region. With projects from the complexity of offshore pile installations in the Bay of Campeche, Mexico, to the majestic rock slopes of the fjords in Chilean Patagonia, these projects showcase the remarkable diversity of geotechnical engineering across the Americas. You are invited to explore this captivating visual journey by visiting the gallery at sochige.cl/Geopostales.

Geopostales is a testament to the creativity of geotechnical and geological professionals across the Americas. It celebrates the unique perspectives each participant brings while highlighting the collective passion that unites our community. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Lenart González, Daniela Pollak, Rafael Iglesias, Alejandra Serey, and many others whose invaluable contributions and dedication made this project possible.
